Research Evaluation

I have discovered from my research from the picture questionnaire that my target audience prefer to listen to rock music. The majority of the people I asked all agreed that their favourite colour combinations are red, black and white or red, blue and white. A few of the people I asked also mentioned that they would pick up a magazine if the front cover looked good therefore it is vital that my front cover is eye catching.

I have discovered from carrying out my questionnaire of asking 15 people 8 questions that 10 out of the 15 prefer to have one main image on the front cover as well as a few smaller images. The results from the question ‘what do you prefer on a contents page’ showed me that the majority of my target audience prefer to have the text in the bottom or top half of the contents page. My target audience also prefer to have one main image over just one page and prefer to have 3 columns on the double page spread. I also found out what makes the majority of the people asked pick up a music magazine which is what band is featured in the magazine as well as the images, colours and title used on the front cover. I have discovered that most people asked in my questionnaire prefer to have about 3 colours used on each page and a mixture of fonts mainly 2 or 3 on each page of the magazine. I will take all of these results into consideration when I come to make my magazine.

From the video interviews I carried out I found out that my target audience usually look to see what band is being featured in the magazine before they pick it up to read it as well as the pictures used in the magazine. I found out that the colours play an important role to what attracts them to a magazine as well as if a bold title has been used it is more likely to catch their eye. I also found out that they prefer to have 1 or 2 main images used rather than lots of small images used.

After looked at 5 front covers, 5 contents pages and 5 double page spreads of existing magazines I have a much better idea of the kind of style I want my magazine to be like. I have looked at the different fonts used and colours as well as how many images they have used on each page. I will take forward a number of different points from each of these magazines such as now I know I want to use a red, black and white colour scheme as well as using one main image with a few smaller images.

I will look back at my research as I begin to make my magazine so I am constantly being reminded of what looks good on a magazine and what doesn’t. I am pleased that I carried out this research as it has given me lots of new ideas and inspired me to be more creative with these ideas.
